| Amnesty International Group #168 has joined the effort for juvenile justice in the U.S. Across the nation, children as young as 12 who commit first crimes are being tried as adults and sentenced to very long prison terms alongside hardened adult felons. First among these children is Christopher Pittman, a 12-year-old South Carolina boy who was sentenced as an adult to 30 years without parole in adult prison for killing his granparents. Whatever else this 12-year-old boy was, he was not an adult and his treatment as one constitutes a clear human rights violation. |
